BIRD IN A TREE It's been over 20 long years That I haven't touched any meat Nothing that comes from anything With wings or fins or feet And somehow death doesn't seem To be such a scary word Cos I know in my bones when I'm dead and gone I'll come back as a little bird I will fly over mountains high And wide rolling seas Far from all the dirty towns And noisy industry To a great wide blue lake Where all the birds come every spring And I'll dance in the skies and sing lullabies With my sweetheart on my wing When I think of all the harm humans have done it seems to me I'd rather just be a bird up in a tree------eee! Yes, I'd rather be a birdie in a tree! I read a book about the Hopi tribe Who worship the sun and earth Because the sunlight nourishes everything And the earth gives all things birth It said your mother and father are just humans, One day you will part ways But our real parents are the sun and earth Who care for us till the end of our days I believe in the water And the earth and the fire and the wind The Preacher says God created them all But I say they created him Because if we lose touch with nature God's just a hopeless bum Who made us all in his image: Lost, confused and dumb! You tell me Jesus is looking down and watching me all the time But I look up at the trees And see the sunlight dancing in the breeze, The earth beneath my feet And a little birdee... In the skyyyyy Yess-I-I-I-I... l'd rather be a birdie in the sky Summer 2014
